Jill Carpenter

Jill Carpenter plays banjo with Bazzania Girls Band, which was organized by botanist Mary Priestley.  Named for a braided liverwort, Bazzania is the official band of the Friends of the South Cumberland Recreation Area, and plays at the annual gathering.  Jill writes a quarterly column for the Friends’ newsletter, and is a member of the Dead Plants Society, a group that meets weekly to share nature journals.  Jill has worked as a teacher, science writer, and bookseller, but in recent years she has embraced her old love of patchwork and quilting, and some of her quilts are offered for sale in the art gallery at Shenanigans restaurant in Sewanee.
