"To preserve and protect the environmental, cultural, and historical resources of the Cumberland Trail corridor, to provide related educational opportunities, and to support park needs."

Mission Statement
School/Scout Affiliates - Your school or scout troop can become an Affiliate Friend of the Cumberland Trail. Youth are the future of the Cumberland Trail and we need their energy and ideas.

School/Scout Affiliates

Your school or scout group can be a Friend of the Cumberland Trail by becoming a School or Scout Affiliate. Your elementary, middle, or high school or scout troop can volunteer for a service project such as:
  • Walking a section of the trail on a regular basis
  • Bridging Rock Creek
    Bridging Rock Creek
  • Leading hikes for your community
  • Picking up trash at a trailhead
  • Raising money for ranger equipment or other park needs
  • Performing trail maintenance
  • Assisting with water quality sampling
  • Inventory of wildflowers, animals, and trees on a section of trail
  • An Eagle Scout project
  • A Cumberland Trail Art Show at your school
We have activities planned for all age groups.

Some project ideas are listed on this page but we encourage school and Scout groups to come up with your own project ideas and submit them to us for consideration. Just email us at info@friendsofthecumberlandtrail.org.

Your school, classroom/environmental club, or Scout troop will be recognized on the Friends website "Wall of Fame" with a plaque and text detailing the service projects your group has undertaken. We will also provide a press release for your local paper.
